Good For the Planet? Good For You!
As a Hollywood hair veteran,
Susan Henry had worked for some of the top salons before reactions to ammonia
segued her into a world of natural hair processes. She opened Shades Natural Color salon in
Beverly Hills to offer clients a non-toxic alternative to chemical hair treatments. I was eager to check this place out, but didn’t need
my hair colored, so I opted instead for a natural manicure, a rosemary/tea tree
oil scalp treatment and blowout.
Shades is (despite the name) filled with natural sunlight, and bright personalities to boot. I met with Gia, who explained the toll stress takes on our scalp. She massaged a Shades proprietary blend of oil into my hair, said to loosen up hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. She then brushed my hair and treated me to a scrumptious scalp massage, starting at the base of the head and working up toward the temples.
As if that weren’t relaxing enough, Michelle came along, inquired about my choice of nail color and preference in shape, and then treated my hands and nails to Shades patented brand of TLC: massage, moisture and color.
Shades strives to be as green as possible; in addition to avoiding harmful chemicals, the salon cuts energy usage by relying on natural sunlight for as much of the day as possible. It’s also a great option for pregnant women, those undergoing chemotherapy, or anyone else who wants to maintain their hair color safely and naturally.
