Made in the Shade
Here’s your chance to atone for summer’s sunbathing sins in style. Manhattan Beach’s luxury boutique Shade Hotel has partnered with Murad to offer the “Sun Undone” package. This includes a night’s stay at the hotel, followed by a day at the state-of-the-art Murad Inclusive Health Spa.
I was all too happy to try this package out with my husband. After a grueling Friday afternoon drive from Hollywood to Manhattan Beach, Shade Hotel (and the ocean beyond) sparkled like a sleek and stylish haven. With its deep spa tub, red “color-therapy” lighting, and king-size Tempur-Pedic bed, our room was a romantic refuge. Tempting as it was to settle in immediately, we felt compelled to explore. After a walk around downtown MB, we returned for a soak in the hotel’s heated rooftop pool before dining on a creative sampling of small plates at Shade’s Zinc Lounge.
We rose bright and early to hit the generous complimentary breakfast buffet (fruit and yogurt parfaits, oatmeal, bagels and lox, pastries, cereal, coffee, fresh juice) before driving the short distance to El Segundo for our spa treatments. We each got to choose a facial and a body treatment. I opted for the Pomegranate Body Scrub (to slough off all that dead summer skin, natch) and the Environmental Shield Vitamin C Infusion Facial to combat sun damage, while my husband kept things simple with the Murad Man Facial and Signature Massage. After two hours of Murad’s patented results-oriented pampering, my skin was smooth and my face sparkled. When we checked out, we each received a Murad Summer Skin Essentials Kit containing pomegranate lip balm and sunscreen. It was with more than a touch of reluctance that the two of us turned the car north to head back to reality.
