Every so often, Chill Out LA will feature
a meditation workshop or group meditation event, but we realize
that many of our readers may have little to no experience
with any type of meditation practice. For those of you who
would like to become familiar with the basics of higher consciousness
before attending an organized meditation event, we've found
a guide that lays down the foundation of a general meditation
practice in an easily digestible format. After all, the point
of these events and workshops is to make you more relaxed,
not to give you anxiety about measuring up to all of the blissed-out
gurus in attendance.

is a short instructional manual about the basics of
meditation for those who are curious about meditation but
have very little time to devote to learning. Instead of going
into great detail about different meditation styles and practices,

of meditation can be applied to your busy everyday life. It
provides a simple-to-follow, eight-step program that only
requires eight minutes a day. The instructions focus on eliminating
common obstacles to a successful practice, such as losing
concentration, becoming distracted and falling asleep. It
takes about eight weeks to complete the training, but you'll
start to feel the benefits after only a few days - it's amazing
what simply sitting still and clearing your head for eight
short minutes can do to calm your body and mind.
After reading this book, you may find it perfectly fulfilling
to continue your meditation practice on your own. But if you
do decide to attend a group event, you'll feel confident enough
to "Om" with the best of them!
