Chill Out LA Offer: One month of unlimited classes at the Bar Method normally costs $225, but they offer a special introductory special for just $100.
Raising the "Bar" for Physical Fitness
Upon our very first visit to the Bar Method studio (the location on Third St.), we felt instantly welcome and comfortable thanks to the jovial staff. That said, they warned us that the first class would kick our butt, and boy were they right. Class sizes range in size from just a few people to close to a dozen, but the instructors were always great about learning everyone's names and providing individual attention. We attended classes two to three times a week for one month to see what kind of results we'd get.
During our first session, the exercises were at once familiar and totally new to us - this is because the Bar Method combines elements of yoga and Pilates, and also throws some ballet, isometrics and even a little weight training into the mix. The result is an always interesting workout that targets and challenges the deepest muscles like no other fitness regimen we've tried. Stretching is also very much a part of the one-hour workout – after each new muscle group is worked, the instructor leads the class through targeted stretches to aid in recovery and flexibility.
We'd be lying if we said our first one-hour class flew by – we couldn't help but check the clock a few times because we were working out harder than we had in such a long time. It also took us a few tries to adjust to the new poses required to target those deep muscles, particularly in the arms and butt. But the challenge left us with a deep feeling of satisfaction and a determination to return. After a couple more sessions, we were definitely getting the hang of it and feeling a difference in muscle tone. We even found ourselves incorporating Bar Method-style isometrics and muscle toning postures at work, in front of the TV and in the car.
We can't recommend the Bar Method highly enough to anyone looking for a fresh, results-oriented workout – just be prepared to challenge yourself (and to be challenged by the enthusiastic instructors).
One month of unlimited classes at the Bar Method normally costs $225, but they offer a special introductory special for just $100. Individual classes are $20, and class packages are available to get the per-class price down. The Bar Method has studios in West Hollywood and West Los Angeles (as well as several in the Bay Area).
