Lovely spa, mediocre massage, Friday, 05 September 2008

Written by chillout

I was given a gift certificate for this spa, so I knew nothing about it or which therapist to ask for when making my appointment for a one hour massage. Walking through the front gate, I thought - ahhhh - this is lovely. Right in the middle of a busy Burbank street, I found myself in a peaceful garden. Nice. Presenting myself at the reception desk, I was promptly taken care of, shown where to shower and change. When ready, I presented myself once again at the reception desk and was taken to a private room for my massage. The therapist (sorry, I don't remember her name) introduced herself and inquired about the temperature of the room - too warm or cold. I said that it was fine. She asked how I liked my massage. I very clearly responded - very, very gentle. The next hour was filled with my having to remind her over and over again to please be gentle. The spa was terrific, the massage was absolutely not relaxing. Would I go again and try another therapist? No. I'm one of those people who would feel uncomfortable running into that therapist and having to make up an excuse of why I didn't ask for her again or having to complain to the owner or manager about her. There are too many other spa around to be put in that uncomfortable position (ah, a pun).
