A Hidden Gem Within a Hidden Gem

People who work in Santa Monica's idyllic-as-an-office-complex-could-be Water Garden know Elijio Salon and Spa because it has been a fixture there for many years. The cozy space is frequented by lawyers and business folks who spend their lunch breaks getting rubbed, scrubbed and trimmed, but there is absolutely no reason "civilians" can't join the fun! Parking is easy and free (Elijio validates for the underground garage, and there's even space for bikes), and the environment is tranquil and relaxing, inside and out. Once you've enjoyed the spa's services, you may even want to take a stroll around the grounds and relax alongside the Water Garden's abundant lawns and fountains.

We were greeted warmly by Marco, Elijio's owner, who introduced us to Nataliya, who would perform the spa's Signature Massage, which includes a skin-softening salt scrub. She offered a choice of scent for our massage oil: orange, rose or lavender (we opted for lavender), asked about individual aches and pains, and customized the treatment to accommodate them.

Each practitioner at Elijio brings his or her own unique style. Nataliya's method derives from the classic Russian massage school, a combination of Swedish and Thai massage, and feels fabulous. She followed up the massage by scrubbing us from head to toe with a fragrant blend of rosemary, peppermint oil and sea salt that left our skin smooth and kissable. (If you are modest, please be aware that you are well exposed during the massage and the scrub, so you might want to opt for the spa bra and panties offered at the outset of the treatment.)

Decent place, but expensive!, Sunday, 07 September 2008

I had a nice massage and the people who work there are super nice, but the prices are pretty high. If price is not an issue for you, it's a nice place to get a treatment and then hang around the duck pond afterward!
