Located near the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and 6th St. in Santa Monica, Healing Bodywork Spa looks small and unassuming from the outside. Step inside past the lobby, however, and you'll be surprised by the size and airiness of the space. The decor is simple and soothing - lots of unfinished wood, a trickling fountain, and Far East-themed decorations. There is no sauna or steam room, but a shower is available for clients who prefer to rinse off before or after their session.
There are few physical experiences that are more life-affirming than a truly excellent massage, and ours was one of the best we'd had in a very long time. Our massage therapist Malcolm, a specialist in ancient Chinese medicine, focused on pressure points and the flow of energy through the body. Using varying levels of pressure and a collection of heavenly scented oils, he left us tingling and revitalized. Review originally published 4/15/2004.
