Keeping Negative Energy at "Bey"

If you frequent Santa Monica' s Main Street, you may have walked by The Bey's Garden - a cute boutique selling comfy clothes, lotions and lingerie - a million times without realizing they also offer unique healing treatments in their cozy back room.

Kellie Jean's signature treatment, offered exclusively at The Bey's Garden, is a combination of crystal therapy, massage and Reiki, a Japanese healing art that is meant to provide new vitality in the form of healing life energy. Kellie Jean believes every client has been brought to her for a reason, and so before we began, she asked us what brought us there, and what we were hoping to get out of the experience. Also, because many people have never experienced energy work, she took the time to explain what she would be doing and why, how it might feel, and warned that we might feel a flood of emotions within the next 24 to 48 hours.

We got undressed, hopped on the heated massage table and got under the covers. We began the treatment on our back, as Kellie Jean read our chakras and told us that our base, heart and throat chakras were out of balance. She surmised what that could mean, and set to righting them by dangling a crystal over different parts of our body, a process meant to pull negative energy out, and replace it with healing energy.

Kellie Jean then laid crystals on our unbalanced areas: grounding stones in our fists, turquoise on our throat, and a special healing stone on a chronically painful shoulder. Next, she laid her hands on our face, one position at a time, in the first five positions of Reiki to channel energy through her own body and into ours. She completed the treatment with what we like to call a "Goldilocks" neck and back massage. You know - not too hard, not too soft: just right.
