We've had our fair share (OK, probably more than our fair share) of facials over the years, and they've all been pleasant experiences. Some have even been exceptional. Our recent session with Tanis Rhines at the Garden Spa't definitely falls into the latter category.
The Garden Spa't is a private skin care studio located on the upper floor of a Craftsman cottage in Eagle Rock. Owner Tanis Rhines is a wealth of information when it comes to skin care and products – she even has an M.A. in Biology. She uses the high-end Eminence Organics line almost exclusively in her treatments because of its all-natural yet potent ingredients and the company’s dedication to using organic and sustainably grown ingredients.
Our facial began with the gentle Stone Crop Gel Wash, which is a derived from an oil-free succulent and cleans the skin gently but thoroughly – perfect for dry skin like ours. Tanis then used the granular Rosehip & Maize Exfoliating Masque to slough away dead skin cells before applying the Blueberry Soy Repair Masque for intense (and delicious) hydration. As the masque worked its magic on our face, Tanis worked her own magic on our arms and shoulders with a moisturizing massage. Extractions were no joke: Tanis was remarkably thorough, and while we cringed a bit during the process, it was well worth it. When we inspected out pores closely in the mirror afterward, they looked more flawless than they have in years. She finished up with the Sweet Red Rose Whip Moisturizer for dehydrated skin and the anti-wrinkle Herbal Eye Contour Cream, leaving our skin gorgeously smooth and supple.
