Earth's Power Yoga: Alignment, Adjustment and Balance
Steven Earth has devoted over 20 years of his life to practicing yoga, and 10 to teaching it. Like most born instructors, he's enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge. This is why Earth's Power Yoga is such a great deal: Each class is both a workout and a physiology lesson.
Earth combines challenging postures with verbal and physical adjustments to focus his students on balancing their bodies and strengthening their weak areas. His 1 1/2-hour classes utilize every muscle in the body, transforming even the stillest postures into a form of resistance training. Blocks are available for those who need help getting into a pose, and mats are can be rented for $2, though students are encouraged to bring their own.
The Saturday morning Level 1 to 3 class we attended is a vigorous mixed level workout in a heated (85-degree) studio, so remember to bring water! Other types of classes are available, ranging from Beginner to Alignment.
Metered parking is available along Fairfax and on Melrose. For those looking to make a day of it, Sundays are a great time to attend, as the Fairfax High School Swap Meet takes place right across the street.
